Safeguarding

We recognise that our work with children, young people and vulnerable adults is the responsibility of the whole church community.

We undertake to exercise proper care in the selection, appointment and support of those working with our children, young people and vulnerable adults.

We wish to support parents and carers who have responsibility for bringing up children in accordance with the principles set out in the document ‘Safeguarding in the Diocese of London’.

We also accept and endorse the principles of the Children Act 1989 and the House of Bishops’ Policy Statement ‘Protecting All God’s Children (2004)

The PCC of this church agreed and adopted the above Policies on Child Protection at its meeting in 2016 when it considered Safeguarding and then it has reviewed this area regularly since then.

In the light of these documents we undertake to exercise proper care in the appointment and support of those working with children or vulnerable  adults. This includes the use of Disclosure and Barring (DBS) disclosures and making appropriate referrals to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

We are committed to respond without delay to deal with any concerns or allegations that may be raised concerning a child or vulnerable adult who may have been involved in any incident involving the church community. We are fully aware that on occasion this may involve co-operation with the police and/or social services in any investigation.

As a community we will seek to offer pastoral care and support to anyone in need of safeguarding developing with them appropriate care and pastoral support.

We have appointed John Geers as our Safeguarding Officer (07803 887610 / email tba) and Andrew Mayer as our Children’s Champion (07968 140584 / mramayer@yahoo.co.uk).

A notice of this appointment is clearly displayed on the church notice board.

A copy of the House of Bishop’s Protection Policy is held by both our representatives, in the Parish Records and by the Parish Priest.
