The second reading at Sunday Masses, from 14th July until the end of August, comes from St Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. Ephesus is a city in what we now call Turkey, the ruins of which are impressive to visit. It has close links to the letter of St Paul to the Colossians. Paul visited the city twice, so knew the people well. It became a launchpad for the mission in Asia. Acts 20:17-35 records Paul’s final meeting with the leaders of the Ephesian Church. The epistle beautifully reflects on the life of the Christian within the Church, with Christ as her head.
